Welcome to Business Strategy: Mastering Strategic Management, a premier online course tailored for BBA students ready to step into the dynamic world of corporate leadership. At the heart of strategic management lies one critical question: "Why do some firms outperform other firms?". This course answers that question by exploring strategic management as both a rigorous science and a creative art.

Our learning journey follows the comprehensive four-step strategic management process: understanding strategy and performance, environmental and internal scanning, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation.

We start by dissecting the concept of strategy itself, utilizing Mintzberg's 5 Ps—Plan, Ploy, Pattern, Position, and Perspective—to grasp its multidimensional complexity. You will learn how to evaluate organizational performance not just through traditional financial metrics, but via the comprehensive balanced scorecard framework.

Next, we will conduct deep environmental and internal scanning. You will master PESTEL analysis to understand broad societal trends and apply Porter's Five Forces to evaluate industry profit potential. Looking internally, we will utilize Resource-Based Theory to identify strategic resources that are valuable, rare, difficult to imitate, and non-substitutable, paving the way for sustained competitive advantage.

In the strategy formulation modules, you will discover how to select the right business-level strategies, such as cost leadership or differentiation, while avoiding the trap of becoming "stuck in the middle". We will also explore innovative competitive moves like the blue ocean strategy and bricolage. As we broaden our scope, we will analyze corporate-level strategies including diversification and vertical integration, and apply the BCG Matrix for effective portfolio planning. For those looking to compete globally, we will use the diamond model to understand international success and discuss market entry options like franchising and joint ventures.

Finally, great strategies require flawless execution. You will learn how to align organizational structure and control systems to support your strategic goals. We will conclude by emphasizing the crucial role of ethical leadership, corporate governance, and the board of directors in maintaining corporate social responsibility.

Join us to develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to lead ethically, compete globally, and master strategic management!

You will master the nuances of business-level strategies, discovering how to implement cost leadership, differentiation, or best-cost strategies while actively avoiding the perilous trap of becoming "stuck in the middle."

Moreover, you will learn how to execute competitive and cooperative moves, such as capitalizing on first-mover advantages, launching disruptive innovations, formulating blue ocean strategies, and forming joint ventures or strategic alliances. As we scale up to corporate-level decisions, you will learn to navigate vertical integration, assess related and unrelated diversification, and conduct portfolio planning using the BCG Matrix.
