Atlanta College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Achieves United Nations Civil Society Participation Registration

Author: Priscilla Grande

Atlanta College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (ACLAS) is proud to announce that we are now officially registered with the United Nations for Civil Society Participation. This significant milestone represents the culmination of our ongoing commitment to global education, cross-cultural dialogue, and international cooperation.

A New Chapter in Global Engagement

This registration acknowledges ACLAS's role as a contributor to global discourse on critical issues facing our world today. From human rights and education to sustainable development and digital ethics, our voice and interdisciplinary expertise are now recognized on the international stage. We look forward to collaborating with more recognized organizations, amplifying critical perspectives, and continuing our mission to foster thoughtful, ethical, and globally conscious leadership.

Our Mission: Education as a Universal Right

At the heart of ACLAS's pursuit of UN registration lies our fundamental belief that quality education is a universal human right. Our institution has long advocated for accessible, inclusive, and transformative educational opportunities that transcend geographical, cultural, and socioeconomic boundaries. This recognition strengthens our platform to champion educational equity across diverse global contexts.

“This registration represents more than institutional recognition,” says Dr. Robert Anderson, President of ACLAS. “It embodies our commitment to ensuring that liberal arts education remains relevant, responsive, and accessible in addressing the complex challenges of our interconnected world.”

Bridging Theory and Practice

ACLAS has distinguished itself through programs that bridge academic theory with real-world practice. Our students and faculty regularly engage in community-based research, service-learning initiatives, and collaborative projects with international partners. This UN registration will enhance our ability to:

  • Connect students with global organizations for meaningful internship and research opportunities

  • Facilitate faculty participation in international policy discussions and working groups

  • Develop educational resources that can be shared across borders and institutional boundaries

  • Contribute academic perspectives to pressing global challenges

Looking Forward: Our Objectives

With this new level of recognition, ACLAS aims to advance several key objectives in the coming years:

  1. Democratizing Knowledge Production: Creating platforms where diverse voices and knowledge systems can contribute to global understanding and problem-solving

  2. Promoting Intercultural Dialogue: Establishing programs that foster meaningful exchange across cultural, political, and ideological divides

  3. Developing Global Citizenship: Educating students who understand their responsibilities as members of a global community and who possess the tools to engage ethically with complex international issues

  4. Supporting Sustainable Development: Contributing research and educational resources that support communities in achieving long-term sustainability goals

  5. Advancing Digital Inclusion: Working to ensure that technological advancements benefit diverse populations and that digital resources are accessible to educational institutions worldwide

Building Collaborative Networks

This registration enables ACLAS to participate in a vibrant network of civil society organizations, educational institutions, and UN agencies committed to positive global change. We look forward to forming new partnerships that amplify our collective impact and create meaningful opportunities for our academic community.

“We see this not as an achievement to celebrate and then set aside, but as the beginning of a new chapter in our institutional story,” notes Dr. Emily Thompson, Program Director at ACLAS. “The real work begins now, as we leverage this recognition to make tangible contributions to global education and sustainable development.”

The Atlanta College of Liberal Arts and Sciences remains committed to its founding vision of education that empowers individuals to think critically, act ethically, and engage meaningfully with the complex challenges of our world.
