Why there is two separate fees when choosing installment plan?
Updated at Feb 6, 2026, Viewed 0 times
When selecting the installment payment plan, you may notice two separate fees — a 6% payment processing fee and a $2 handling fee. For the 6% payment processing fee, this fee is only applied to certain payment methods, such as Wintopay, PayPal, Geoswift, and Xendit, which use third-party processors to handle secure global transactions.

These charges are not imposed by ACLAS but are collected by the respective payment gateways to cover transaction processing and administrative costs.

---

1. $2 Handling Fee

A $2 handling fee applies to each installment transaction for every payment method.

  • Purpose: This fee covers administrative processing for multiple payments and record maintenance.

    • When it applies: The $2 fee is added automatically each time an installment is made.

    2. 6% Payment Processing Fee

A 6% processing fee is added when payments are made through certain gateways like Wintopay, PayPal, Geoswift, or Xendit.

    • Purpose: Covers the cost of maintaining secure payment networks, fraud prevention systems, and international transaction fees.

    • Frequency: The 6% fee is charged per installment payment, not one-time.

For example, if you pay in three installments via PayPal, each payment will include a 6% charge.

    • Note: ACLAS does not receive this amount; it is retained by the payment service provider.

    3. How to Avoid These Extra Fees

To avoid the 6% processing fee, you may choose alternative payment methods that do not include these charges:

    • PayMyTuition

    • Debit/ Credit Cards

    • USDT (Tether Cryptocurrency)

    • Western Union

These methods offer secure, low-cost international payments without additional processing fees.

To avoid the $2 handling fee, you may choose to make full payment, instead of installment payment.
